New Housing Policy in El Salvador Aims to Reduce Costs and Increase Homeownership.

El Salvador continues to prioritize access to dignified, safe, and affordable housing for Salvadoran families. This morning, Housing Minister Michelle Sol shared the newly approved regulation for social housing projects with business leaders from the Salvadoran Chamber of the Construction Industry (CASALCO), aiming to address the country’s high demand.

The regulation includes incentives to encourage investors to build more social housing, especially vertical developments. “With these provisions, we are also working on a series of incentives that will reduce the cost per housing unit, so that this reduction is reflected in the selling price,” explained Minister Sol.

She emphasized that security policies under President Bukele have created higher demand for housing. “Thanks to the climate of security, everyone now has the certainty to invest in a home. However, we know that there is high demand and little supply, so we are working to create conditions that allow more Salvadorans to fulfill the dream of owning a home,” she said.

The minister also noted the interest of international organizations in supporting affordable housing initiatives. “BID Invest is interested in placing funds for the construction of social housing projects, which means a favorable ecosystem is being created for these developments,” she added.

Minister Sol thanked the private sector for their interest and called on them to invest in these initiatives. “We will be your partners, supporting you in all the procedures. We need you to join us so that social housing production can be seen throughout the country,” she affirmed.
