El Salvador Strengthens Digital Infrastructure with Free Internet Access in Public Spaces.

El Salvador continues advancing its technological progress with the expansion of free satellite internet in public spaces, as part of the government’s strategy to reduce the digital divide across the country. On Monday, the Secretariat of Innovation inaugurated a new internet network at the Central Park of Sacacoyo, in La Libertad Oeste, marking the 76th intervention under the “Conectando El Salvador” project.

The new installation provides high-speed internet with a capacity of 250 megabytes per second, enabling more than 150 users to connect simultaneously, 24 hours a day. According to official data, by July 2024 the project had facilitated over 16 million free connections nationwide.

“The benefit is great for all the residents of Sacacoyo. This service in an open space will allow them to complete procedures and other activities thanks to the initiative of President Nayib Bukele,” said Susana Barahona, coordinator of the Directorate of Innovation.

During the launch event, students from the Cantón Buena Vista School connected for the first time to the free service in a public area of Sacacoyo. The connectivity also grants access to key government platforms such as https://simple.sv and https://esit.gob.sv, which offer online services and training opportunities.

Reducing the digital divide remains a priority for President Bukele’s administration, which emphasizes that universal internet access strengthens educational opportunities, boosts workforce development, and improves daily communication for Salvadorans.
