Four districts in the department of Morazán have been incorporated into a national cacao reforestation program led by the government of President Nayib Bukele through the Ministry of Local Development. Minister María Ofelia Navarrete met with the mayors of Morazán Sur, Cédrick Vásquez, and Morazán Norte, Justino Vigil, to present the project and officially launch the initiative that will benefit local cacao producers.

This effort seeks to add value to the crop by guaranteeing technical assistance, supplies, and productive support, strengthening the local economy while protecting a key water recharge area for our communities, said Mayor Vásquez following the meeting.
During the event, the ministry also introduced the technical team that will lead the cacao revitalization program in the districts of Delicias, Osicala, Gualococti, and San Simón. Currently, more than 40 producers in Morazán are dedicated to cultivating cacao. Over the past year, around 164,000 trees were planted in the department through the Alianza Cacao project, carried out by the Association of Watersheds of the Gulf of Fonseca (Acugolfo).
Nationally, El Salvador produces more than 980 metric tons of cacao annually, with 282 tons coming from the eastern region, including part of the production from Morazán.
