Special Forces from the Americas Compete in El Salvador’s Fuerzas Comando 2025.

El Salvador is hosting the 19th edition of Fuerzas Comando 2025, a multinational competition that brings together special forces from North, Central, and South America. Organized by the United States Southern Command in coordination with El Salvador, the event highlights the country’s growing reputation as a regional leader in security and stability under President Nayib Bukele’s administration.

Defense Minister René Francis Merino Monroy explained that the event not only tests military skills but also includes a high-level seminar with senior military officials from participating nations. “During the competition a seminar of high-ranking leaders will take place, with senior officers from the competing countries,” he said.

The minister emphasized that the competition, which began in 2004, has grown significantly in scope, now including forces from Chile, Argentina, Ecuador, and Colombia, nations known for their strong operational capacity. “We have made our best effort to represent our country and our institution. The Commander of U.S. Southern Command, Alvin Holsey, will arrive on August 28 to join the senior leaders’ conference and the closing ceremony. The goal is to unify international capabilities to face transnational threats such as drug trafficking and terrorism, while sharing experiences among nations,” he added.

The event runs until August 29, featuring challenges such as marksmanship, obstacle courses, aquatic trials at Lake Ilopango, forced marches, and hostage rescue operations. Beyond the competition, Fuerzas Comando 2025 serves as a platform for sharing best practices in special operations, reinforcing cooperation, and showcasing El Salvador’s progress in public security, which has gained international trust.
