El Salvador’s government has launched “Plan Vacación,” a nationwide initiative to ensure safety and enjoyment during the August holidays from August 1–6.
Tourism Minister Morena Valdez announced projections of over 90,000 international visitors—mainly from the U.S. and the Salvadoran diaspora—generating around $60 million in tourism revenue. An additional 2.6 million local visitors are expected across cultural and natural attractions, especially in San Salvador.
To support this influx, over 75,000 personnel will be deployed, including 342 lifeguards at 170 monitoring points. The health system will operate 41 hospitals, 183 health units, and emergency services with over 140 ambulances, boats, and helicopters.
“We are making every effort so families and tourists can enjoy these holidays safely,” said Valdez. Airport authorities expect 170,000 passenger movements, with 44% of international arrivals entering via the country’s main airport.
