El Salvador is hosting the 51st Plenary Meeting of Representatives and working groups of the Latin American Financial Action Task Force (GAFILAT), marking the first time the country has held this event since joining the organization. The gathering brings together experts from 18 countries to discuss key issues related to the prevention of money laundering, terrorist financing, and the proliferation of weapons of mass destruction.
According to the Attorney General’s Office of El Salvador, this round of meetings is focused on preparing the agenda for the upcoming fifth evaluation round of member states. These evaluations aim to measure each country’s compliance with international financial standards and efforts to combat illicit financial activities.
“With the organization of this event, El Salvador is contributing to ensure that Latin America as a region complies with the standards set by the Financial Action Task Force,” said the Attorney General’s Office via social media.
The event highlights El Salvador’s growing role in regional security and financial transparency, as it works with international partners to strengthen frameworks that protect the financial system from criminal exploitation.
