Rum from El Salvador Wins Palates in Washington D.C. with Unique Flavor Profiles.

Salvadoran rum took center stage at a recent tasting event held in Washington D.C., where representatives from the local diaspora and the region’s liquor, bar, and restaurant industries gathered to explore the craftsmanship of Cihuatán, a distillery known for producing high-quality rums in El Salvador.

The event was organized by the Embassy of El Salvador in the United States as part of its ongoing economic diplomacy efforts aimed at promoting and diversifying the country’s export offerings in the U.S. market. Attendees had the opportunity to sample Cihuatán’s signature varieties—Indigo, Artesano, and Xaman—served both straight and in carefully curated cocktails that highlighted the richness of the rum.

Participants also enjoyed a gourmet pairing experience prepared by renowned Salvadoran chef Rufino Bautista, who resides in the United States. Additionally, they learned about Cihuatán’s origins and the detailed processes behind the creation of its rums.

“We aim for Salvadoran companies to make the right connections so their products can enter the United States, one of the world’s leading markets with strong potential for our liquor industry,” said Ambassador Milena Mayorga.

Juan Alfredo Pacas, Vice President of Cihuatán, expressed his gratitude for the support received. “This kind of backing is essential to organize our agenda and meet with business owners and venues interested in acquiring our products,” he stated.

Néstor Rivera, a Salvadoran entrepreneur in the local beverage scene, noted the favorable reception of the brand. “Many customers are looking for the flavor profiles this rum delivers,” he said, highlighting the growing appeal of Salvadoran rum among American consumers.
