Students in Norway Learn the Global Value of Salvadoran Coffee.

The Diplomatic Mission of El Salvador in Norway recently hosted the event “Jóvenes en la Ruta del Café” (Youth on the Coffee Route), aimed at Spanish-language students who were winners of the Spansk Festival in Oslo. The activity welcomed teachers and students between the ages of 15 and 18, representing various schools across the city.

For many participants, this was their first exposure to cultural and gastronomic diplomacy. “It was a new experience that helped us understand not only Spanish but also the richness of Salvadoran traditions,” one student shared during the event.

Organized as part of the Spanish Language Festival by the Embassy of Spain in Oslo, this initiative also formed part of El Salvador’s broader efforts to promote its coffee culture abroad. The program introduced the youth to Salvadoran coffee from the perspective of both importer and consumer, reinforcing the grain’s economic and social significance.

A guided tasting session of three distinct Salvadoran coffees marked a key moment in the workshop, offering students a first-hand sensory experience. Accompanied by videos showcasing El Salvador as a travel destination, the event closed with the distribution of branded “Café de El Salvador” mugs.

The event was made possible thanks to the support of Norsk Kaffe Informasjon, several specialty coffee shops in Oslo, and the vital collaboration of the Salvadoran Coffee Institute (ISC).
