El Salvador Rises to Top 30 Coffee Exporters to Europe in 2024.

El Salvador ranked 22nd among 187 non-EU countries exporting coffee to the European Union in 2024, according to the European Commission. The country shipped 7.8 million kilograms of coffee, earning $46.5 million (€40.7 million).

Among Central American exporters, Guatemala, Nicaragua, Costa Rica, and Honduras exported higher volumes. Honduras stood out as the fourth-largest global supplier to the EU, behind only Uganda, Vietnam, and Brazil.

Despite good export numbers, El Salvador ranked 96th in terms of price per kilogram. The EU paid $5.94 per kilogram of Salvadoran coffee—third best in Central America after Panama ($10.56) and Costa Rica ($6.27).

“Europe remains a key market for Salvadoran coffee,” stated the Salvadoran Coffee Institute. Between October 2024 and April 2025, 24.2% of El Salvador’s coffee exports went to the EU, sold at an average of $289.33 per quintal.

A new EU regulation to combat deforestation will take effect later this year, requiring annual checks on 3% of Salvadoran coffee exports. El Salvador is classified as a standard-risk country under this rule, along with most of Central America, except Costa Rica, which was rated low-risk.
