On May 24, the General Consulate of El Salvador in Tapachula, Mexico coordinated the country’s participation in the “Desfile Regional Multicultural El Soconusco,” marking the opening of the renowned Expo Feria Tapachula in Chiapas, Mexico.

This annual celebration, organized by the Tapachula City Council through its Department of Education and Culture, attracts thousands of visitors each year. The parade stood out for its vibrant floats, theatrical performances, and the participation of the fair’s queens. The event began at the area known as “las MAPAS” and traveled through approximately eight blocks, concluding at Miguel Hidalgo Central Park, where a festival showcased various artistic presentations on a specially designed stage.

El Salvador proudly presented its national culture through traditional costumes and a dynamic performance by the Compañía de Danza Folclore de El Salvador. Their repertoire reflected the rich traditions of the country’s central, western, and eastern regions.
Local authorities, who presided over the event, expressed their gratitude for El Salvador’s participation. “We thank the General Consulate of El Salvador for their support, as well as the educational institutions and government entities that joined this cultural initiative,” one official stated, emphasizing the importance of promoting cultural identity.

Additionally, a cultural exchange took place in the municipality of Mapastepec, where the Salvadoran dance company performed twelve traditional pieces, including El Carbonero, El Torito Pinto, and Los Farolitos. Representing Mapastepec, the local Casa de la Cultura shared pre-Hispanic and colonial-era dances.
The exchange drew around 100 attendees from the region, including members of the Salvadoran diaspora. “It was a moving experience to see our culture represented abroad with such pride,” said one spectator. The event was organized by Mapastepec’s Department of Tourism in collaboration with the local cultural center.
