As part of its ongoing efforts to modernize the healthcare system, the Ministry of Health of El Salvador (MINSAL) has signed two major cooperation agreements aimed at improving neurological care in the country. The agreements will enhance the professional development of medical personnel and provide Salvadoran patients with access to specialized treatment abroad.
Vice Minister of Health Management and Development, Carlos Alvarenga, formalized the partnerships with the National Neurological Research Institute of the Mondino Foundation (IRCCS) in Italy and the University of Navarra Clinic in Spain.

“These agreements represent an important step forward in strengthening El Salvador’s capacity for diagnosing and treating complex neurological conditions,” stated MINSAL.
The cooperation includes postgraduate education, specialized training through medical internships, and expert consultation for complex clinical cases. Salvadoran doctors and healthcare professionals will benefit from continuous training and the opportunity to collaborate with some of Europe’s most prestigious medical institutions.
Additionally, the Ministry confirmed that the agreements will also facilitate the referral and admission of Salvadoran patients to hospitals abroad, where they will receive advanced neurological treatments. Support will include travel coordination and personalized medical care to ensure comprehensive attention.
This initiative is part of the government’s broader strategy to provide world-class healthcare and strengthen the quality of specialized medical services in El Salvador.
