ISA Praises El Salvador as a Leading Global Surfing Destination.

El Salvador has once again captured international attention as a premier destination for world-class surfing. During the closing ceremony of the ISA World Longboard Championship, held at the iconic El Sunzal beach, Fernando Aguerre, President of the International Surfing Association (ISA), praised the nation’s rise in the global surfing scene.

“What a wonderful day for longboard surfing! What an incredible week! Incredible waves!” Aguerre said on May 1, celebrating both the athletes and the host country. “Thank you to the people and government of El Salvador for making El Salvador one of the most important destinations for surfing.”

Aguerre recalled a pivotal moment in 2019 when President Nayib Bukele expressed his vision of transforming the country into a surfing hub. “He told me, ‘I want to make El Salvador one of the key places in the world of surfing.’ Congratulations, you’ve achieved it!”

The ISA president also recognized Minister of Tourism Morena Valdez for her efforts in positioning the country on the international sports tourism map. He encouraged the athletes to return home as ambassadors for El Salvador, praising the hospitality, waves, and natural beauty they experienced.

The ISA World Longboard Championship ran from April 25 to May 1, 2025, drawing top talent and surf enthusiasts from around the world. This tournament is one of five international surfing events scheduled this year on the Salvadoran coast.

Tourism authorities noted that events like these play a vital role in boosting the local economy, driving foreign currency inflows, and supporting communities through increased tourism activity.

With consistent waves, world-renowned beaches, and growing global recognition, El Salvador continues to solidify its place as a leading surfing destination in 2025 and beyond.
