As tourism in El Salvador continues to thrive, it’s fueling new investment projects aimed at preparing locals for careers in the sector. One major initiative is the Escuela Especializada en Hostelería y Turismo (Estur), a new institution with a $15 million investment, offering a curriculum tailored to market demands.
Initially launching online, Estur plans to open its campus in the San Salvador Metropolitan Area later this year. The school aims to train highly skilled professionals to deliver world-class service in hospitality and tourism.
“This project not only dignifies the work of our youth but also contributes to the development of El Salvador and other countries through strategic partnerships,” said Gabriela Joachin, Estur’s executive director.

Backed by international organizations like Amforht and UN Tourism, Estur will provide short courses and business training in customer service, restaurant management, event planning, and more. It will also offer technical English courses and connect graduates with job opportunities through a dedicated placement service.

Students will gain international experience through internships in destinations like Punta Cana. The institution also plans to offer scholarships for young people from vulnerable backgrounds.
Industry leaders have welcomed the project. “We support this initiative because it strengthens the supply chain for the tourism sector,” said Jorge Arriaza of ASI. “It’s a much-needed step for preparing our youth,” added Leo Guzmán of ARES.
Queta Meyers of Casatur noted, “With rising tourist expectations, we need better service — and that starts with training and opportunity.”
