El Salvador Advances Agricultural Sustainability with New Soil and Water Analysis Laboratory in Trifinio.

The Government of El Salvador continues its commitment to sustainable development and regional collaboration by inaugurating a new Soil and Water Analysis Laboratory in the Trifinio region. The initiative is part of the broader project Technological Innovation and Scientific Research for Sustainable and Competitive Horticulture in the Trifinio Region (TRIFINIOIN), funded by the Italian Agency for Development Cooperation (AICS) and implemented by the International Italian-Latin American Organization (IILA).

The Vice President of the Republic, Mr. Félix Ulloa Jr., led the inauguration ceremony alongside high-level representatives from Honduras, Guatemala, and Italy. In his speech, Mr. Ulloa praised the strategic vision of President Nayib Bukele, stating:

«We are winning the War Against Gangs, thus achieving the miracle of security and betting on the economic miracle.»

He highlighted that the laboratory is part of a virtuous chain of sustainable initiatives promoted with international cooperation.

Supporting Agriculture Through Science

Located at the SISTAGRO facilities in Metapán, the laboratory will provide local farmers with free soil and water analysis, offering vital data and technical recommendations for improving crop management. During the event, more than 85,000 vegetable seedlings were distributed to local producers, and a new aquaponic system was inaugurated to support integrated fish and vegetable production.

The program, supported by @AgriculturaSV and CENDEPESCA, is a key part of El Salvador’s strategy to strengthen its agricultural sector, especially in the Trifinio region, which spans El Salvador, Honduras, and Guatemala.

Strategic International Partnerships

This initiative exemplifies how El Salvador is leveraging international partnerships to enhance rural development. Attendees at the inauguration included:

  • Doris Gutiérrez, Presidential Designee of Honduras
  • Paolo Rozo, Ambassador of Italy
  • Carlos Landaverde, Mayor of Santa Ana Norte
  • Representatives from @AICSSanSalvador and @iila_org

The new laboratory will enable the issuance of technical certifications, helping producers meet environmental and quality standards for both national and international markets.

A Commitment to Economic Growth

The Government of El Salvador continues to invest in projects that promote food security, increase agricultural competitiveness, and improve the quality of life of farming families. With the support of strategic allies, the country is advancing toward its goal of sustainable economic development.
