Grupo Cyeemex, a leading Mexican holding company specializing in waste management and environmental solutions, has announced plans to invest more than $20 million in El Salvador in 2025. The investment will be directed toward infrastructure for the collection, transfer, and utilization of solid waste, reinforcing the country’s waste management and recycling capabilities.
The initiative will be executed through Cyeemsal, Grupo Cyeemex’s subsidiary, which has been operating in El Salvador for over three years. Cyeemsal focuses on waste collection, recycling plant management, and waste transfer and utilization, playing a crucial role in promoting sustainability in the region.

Ismael Ordóñez, CEO of Cyeemsal, highlighted the company’s rapid growth over the past three years and outlined ambitious projects aimed at completing the circular economy cycle for waste management.
“In 2025, we are investing in infrastructure that will allow us to close the circular economy cycle. Our commitment is to modernize equipment for waste collection in the country, as well as improve recycling plants, transfer stations, and waste utilization processes,” Ordóñez stated in an interview in Mexico City.
Additionally, the company aims to generate more than 800 formal jobs for Salvadorans. Ordóñez emphasized that this investment is driven by the favorable physical and legal security conditions in El Salvador and the support provided by President Nayib Bukele’s administration to investors. He also noted that several business partners and suppliers from Mexico are considering expanding their operations to El Salvador, recognizing the country as a strategic hub for serving the Central American market.

“The transformation of El Salvador, its security climate, and the government’s investment in infrastructure have attracted more companies looking to develop projects in the region. Many of us who have invested in the country since the beginning of President Bukele’s administration have had positive experiences, and this has encouraged further investment and establishment in the country,” he added.
José Luis Netzahualcóyotl, President of Grupo Cyeemex, described El Salvador as the company’s “flagship project” in its regional expansion strategy. He expressed the company’s commitment to positioning El Salvador as a leader in waste treatment and management in Central America.

“Our goal is to make El Salvador the country with the best integrated waste management system in the region within the next three to five years. We have a strategic plan in place, and our efforts are closely aligned with President Bukele’s vision for the nation,” Netzahualcóyotl stated. He also revealed that Grupo Cyeemex is actively exploring expansion into other Central and South American markets, including Panama, the Dominican Republic, and Colombia.
With over 40 years of experience, Grupo Cyeemex is the third-largest integrated waste management company in Mexico and a member of the International Solid Waste Association (ISWA). The company’s investment in El Salvador marks a significant step toward advancing sustainable waste management practices in the region.
