The first in-person Higher Education Congress brought together 121 representatives from across Ibero-America, including researchers, rectors, professors, and speakers, to discuss the future of education. The event featured a keynote presentation by José Escamilla, an expert in Artificial Intelligence and Education from the Tecnológico de Monterrey, who emphasized the need for relevant and responsive education.
Escamilla highlighted the importance of integrating new technologies into higher education and called for the creation of an ethics manual for the use of artificial intelligence. “We are in a changing world that requires changes in education. This congress represents an opportunity to rethink how we make higher education more relevant to the needs of industry, business, and society. In other words, an education that integrates technologies and focuses on the individual,” he stated.

Throughout the event, participants engaged in discussions on topics such as the incorporation of advanced technologies to improve academic offerings, the alignment of education with job market demands, and the use of digital credentials. Additional presentations were delivered by Adriana Angarita from Panama, who addressed comprehensive skills, and César Bona from Spain.
Roberto López, president of the Association of Private Universities of El Salvador (AUPRIDES), emphasized the congress’s role in fostering collaboration. “We are counting on the participation of internationally renowned speakers who will share their experiences to impact higher education in the country,” López remarked.
The congress will conclude on Thursday with presentations from Romina Kasman of Argentina and Mauricio Izquierdo of the United States, who will discuss the role of art and culture in education, as well as the QS Stars methodology and guide.

“As a higher education institution, we create a community to strengthen educational relevance and internationalization. It is imperative that we build a common Ibero-American vision,” stated Christian Aparicio, Director of Higher Education.
