El Salvador’s ‘Tunan Tal’ Free Trade Zone: A Model of Responsible Industrial Development.

El Salvador continues to support initiatives that boost the national economy, including the “Tunan Tal” free trade zone. This project, backed by the Salvadoran embassy in Nicaragua and the Tayacana business group, a Salvadoran family residing in Nicaragua, aims to create significant economic opportunities.

Supported by Whitehouse & Schapiro, a global textile trading company, the project will feature a warehouse for sorting second-hand products and a textile recycling plant. Alex Zaldívar, executive director of “Tunan Tal,” emphasized that the project is designed to address environmental issues caused by discarded clothing. “The project is a committed response to our land and an action against environmental pollution,” he said.

The project is set to invest USD $9.5 million initially, with projections reaching USD $12 million upon completion. It will create around 500 direct jobs, contributing to the economic growth of San Vicente. Zaldívar also highlighted the importance of the country’s security measures, which have made the investment possible. “We have a super-safe country that is opening its doors for us to invest and help El Salvador grow,” he added.

Located in the Dos Quebradas canton, the zone will include green spaces and an ecological area to support environmental sustainability. “It is a model of responsible industrial development, committed to the future of the municipality,” concluded Zaldívar.
