With the goal of enhancing consular services and ensuring continuous improvement in attention to the Salvadoran diaspora in the United States, El Salvador’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs conducted the first phase of inspections across nine of its 28 consulates in the country.
The Vice Minister of Diaspora and Human Mobility, Cindy Mariella Portal, personally visited each consulate to assess service quality and identify areas for improvement. The visits aimed to verify that all processes align with the Ministry’s certifications, including the ISO 9001 Quality Management System and the ISO 37001 Anti-Bribery Management System, both granted by the Spanish Association for Standardization and Certification (AENOR).

“With these actions, we seek to standardize all processes and further professionalize our consular network abroad. More than 250 officials and consular assistants are at the service of our Salvadoran diaspora in the United States, and our main objective is to provide quality services at all times,” stated Vice Minister Portal.
She emphasized that for the government of President Nayib Bukele, the diaspora is a vital pillar of the country’s development. “Our diaspora is incredible,” she added, highlighting the administration’s ongoing efforts to deliver services with the quality that Salvadorans deserve.

Community members have expressed their satisfaction with the improvements. Cecilia Castellón, a Salvadoran resident in Los Angeles, California, described the services as “very beneficial, excellent for all Salvadoran compatriots.” Similarly, María Díaz, originally from Morazán, praised the kindness of consular staff, saying, “They are very friendly and always treat you well. Thank you for helping our people, because we need it.”
The initiative also aimed to strengthen ties with the Salvadoran community abroad, recognizing them as strategic partners in the nation’s development.
