Cultural and Educational Alliances at the Heart of El Salvador–Türkiye Cooperation.

El Salvador and Türkiye have reinforced their diplomatic ties through the Second Bilateral Political Consultations Meeting, held today at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in San Salvador. The meeting marked a significant step in advancing political, economic, and cooperative agendas between the two nations.

The session was led by El Salvador’s Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, Adriana Mira, alongside Türkiye’s Director General for Latin America and the Caribbean at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Yaprak Balkan.

“This follow-up meeting demonstrates the strengthening and closeness of our relationship with this friendly nation, with whom we seek greater results in the pursuit of common objectives through joint efforts,” stated Deputy Minister Mira.

Both countries highlighted ongoing cooperation agreements in culture, education, economy, diplomacy, and aeronautics, while exploring new collaborative opportunities in agriculture, environment, health, and tourism. Türkiye’s support through the Turkish Cooperation and Coordination Agency (TIKA) was recognized, particularly for projects like the Nutritional Support and Therapy Unit at the Benjamín Bloom National Children’s Hospital and the provision of scholarships for higher education.

Türkiye expressed gratitude for El Salvador’s solidarity in 2023, when more than 100 Salvadoran rescuers and 10 tons of humanitarian aid were sent to assist after a devastating earthquake.

Economic cooperation took center stage, with special attention to the historic $1.6 billion investment by Turkish company Yilport Holding Co. to modernize the ports of Acajutla and La Unión. Additional business opportunities in agribusiness, technology, renewable energy, infrastructure, and tourism were presented to attract Turkish investors.

“This type of initiative builds trust and encourages other investors from Türkiye to explore business opportunities,” noted Yaprak Balkan, citing the recent visit of a business delegation from the Foreign Economic Relations Board (DEİK) to boost trade and investments.

As part of the event, Balkan delivered a keynote lecture at the Dr. José Gustavo Guerrero Diplomatic Institute, addressing key elements of Türkiye’s foreign policy in the contemporary world, attended by university students, government officials, and special guests.

The meeting reaffirmed the commitment of both countries to strengthening cooperation and fostering mutual growth across various sectors.
