In a significant step toward strengthening bilateral relations, El Salvador and Georgia held their First Political Consultation Meeting today. The dialogue was led by El Salvador’s Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs, Adriana Mira, and Georgia’s First Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, Lasha Darsalia.

During the meeting, Vice Minister Mira reaffirmed El Salvador’s commitment to fostering friendship and cooperation with Georgia, a country with which diplomatic ties have been maintained for 26 years.
“El Salvador continues to move forward firmly in its national development and international projection. In this process, it is essential to consolidate alliances and expand ties with friendly countries like Georgia, with which we share values, interests, and a common vision in various areas of cooperation,” Mira stated.
She also highlighted El Salvador’s ongoing transformation, which she attributed to the government’s vision of improving conditions for national development. Among the key advancements, Mira emphasized the country’s enhanced security conditions and increased investment and business opportunities.
As part of their diplomatic efforts, both nations signed a Framework Cooperation Agreement, aimed at exploring collaboration in education, social protection, inclusion, health, and environmental sustainability. This agreement builds on the Memorandum of Understanding on Bilateral Consultations, signed in September 2023 during the 79th United Nations General Assembly in New York.

Deputy Minister Darsalia recognized the shared values and mutual interests between both countries, stating, “Despite being small countries and geographically distant, we have similarities, as well as common positions in the international system, and we look forward to strengthening our ties.” He also expressed Georgia’s interest in cooperation, trade, and tourism, as well as in expanding economic and academic exchanges.

The meeting included officials from El Salvador’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Georgia’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, reinforcing both countries’ commitment to deepening diplomatic and economic collaboration.
