Government Strengthens Road Safety with $124 Million Infrastructure Investment.

El Salvador continues to implement measures to enhance road connectivity across the country, ensuring safe mobility for its citizens. As part of this effort, periodic maintenance and improvement work is being carried out on the national road network, keeping streets and highways in optimal condition for both vehicular and pedestrian traffic.

These interventions include the rehabilitation of damaged sections, the expansion of strategic roads, and the implementation of signage measures to improve traffic safety. By investing in road infrastructure, the government not only facilitates daily mobility but also strengthens economic and social development by ensuring efficient transportation for workers, businesses, and freight carriers.

Alex Beltran, Executive Director of the Road Maintenance Fund (FOVIALITO), emphasized the increased investment allocated for road maintenance and the steady growth of the budget for these efforts.

“We are investing more than 60% additional funds compared to previous years for maintenance, as there has been deterioration in the road network that we are addressing. Everything has a lifespan,” Beltran stated.

FOVIAL is responsible for maintaining over 7,269 kilometers of roads, with a budget of approximately $124.92 million allocated for maintenance this year. This includes clearing roadways and other essential upkeep activities.

“We have begun maintenance work such as pothole patching and resurfacing in some areas. In the San Salvador Metropolitan Area, we conduct these operations at night to minimize traffic disruptions,” Beltran added.

The government of President Nayib Bukele remains committed to investing in the improvement of the national road network, prioritizing public safety and mobility. With these initiatives, El Salvador moves toward a more efficient connectivity model that meets the needs of the population and drives comprehensive national development.
