El Salvador is once again leading the way in technological innovation with the upcoming launch of CUBO+ IA, a new educational initiative aimed at training university students and software professionals in artificial intelligence (AI). This initiative, developed by the National Bitcoin Office (ONBTC) in collaboration with the government’s AI advisor Brian Roemmele, is set to replicate the success of the CUBO+ bitcoin program, which has already trained over 200 Salvadorans in the development of Bitcoin Core and the Lightning Network.
The CUBO+ IA program, expected to roll out this year, will bring in world-class engineers to teach Salvadoran students about AI technologies. “We are going to introduce a new program called CUBO+ IA, which will have the same concept as the CUBO+ program for bitcoin developers. We will have the best and brightest engineers in the world teaching Salvadorans about this new technology,” said Stacy Herbert, director of ONBTC.
The program will initially launch as a pilot with a select group of students, similar to the early stages of CUBO+ bitcoin. The aim is to grow and refine the system over time. Like its predecessor, CUBO+ IA seeks to empower Salvadorans with the skills needed to secure high-paying jobs or start their own tech companies.
Herbert emphasized that El Salvador is positioning itself at the center of a global competition for technological talent, especially with its pro-technology laws and an emerging race in AI and cryptocurrency development. “El Salvador is the center of this new era of discovery,” she stated.
In addition to CUBO+ IA, the Ministry of Education (Mined) is already working to implement AI and robotics training in schools across the country, with a pilot program in La Libertad that will eventually extend nationwide by 2026.
The success of CUBO+ bitcoin has proven that El Salvador is ready to lead the way in the education and development of emerging technologies. The program has already paved the way for several students to secure positions in national and international Bitcoin companies, and CUBO+ IA aims to do the same for the next generation of AI professionals.
