The Consumer Protection Agency (DC) is urging businesses to register on its new e-commerce platform, designed to streamline the registration of suppliers of goods and services in electronic commerce. Since its launch in July 2024, the platform has already seen more than 600 businesses register, reflecting growing participation in the initiative.
The platform, known as the Single Registry of Suppliers of Goods and Services in Electronic Commerce, allows businesses to register their online presence, including websites, mobile apps, and social media accounts used for commercial purposes. This initiative is part of the recent reform to the Consumer Protection Law (LPC) and aims to provide greater certainty and trust to both consumers and businesses.

Ricardo Salazar, president of the DC, emphasized that the registration process is free and designed to ensure that suppliers are legitimate and responsible. «This platform guarantees that businesses are real and their services meet high standards of accountability,» he said.
Businesses wishing to register can visit the official website at www.defensoria.gob.sv and follow a simple online registration process. Required details include business name, owner information, legal identification numbers, and proof of legal status.
Salazar clarified that the registration is mandatory for businesses involved in electronic commerce but does not apply to occasional sellers or individuals reselling personal items. He also warned that businesses failing to register could face penalties. «Not registering is a serious infraction, and the penalty will depend on the criteria set by the LPC,» he added.
The DC’s goal is to create a safer and more reliable digital marketplace for both consumers and suppliers.
