ALAS Talent Hunting Camp: Shaping the Future of Surfing in El Salvador.

El Salvador is set to host an exciting new initiative aimed at uncovering the next generation of surfing talent, with the ALAS Pro Tour organizing a talent hunting camp between January 15 and 24. The event, which will take place across various surf hotspots in the country, will select 15 young surfers who will be mentored and trained to elevate their skills and potentially join the ranks of professional surfers on the ALAS circuit.

The camp will be spearheaded by former ALAS Pro Tour champions Martín Passeri and Miguel Tudela, alongside ALAS founders Karín Sierralta and Antonio Sotillo. These industry veterans will provide invaluable guidance to help the young surfers develop their competition strategies, physical and mental conditioning, and overall surfing techniques. The goal is to shape them into future leaders of both local and regional surfing.

Speaking to DUKE, Karín Sierralta, president of the ALAS organization, emphasized the importance of this initiative, highlighting that the selected surfers will not only receive specialized training but will also become ambassadors for Surf City, El Salvador’s premier surfing destination. They will also be positioned as potential members of the Salvadoran national surfing team.

«This is a tremendous opportunity for young surfers in El Salvador,» Sierralta explained. «The 15 surfers chosen will be invited to a training camp at Costa del Sol, where we will focus on honing their technical abilities, as well as providing support in areas like nutrition, physical training, and mental preparation.»

The initiative is part of a larger effort backed by Surf City, the Salvadoran Surf Federation, the Salvadoran Sports Institute, and the country’s Olympic Committee. This collaboration aims to identify and nurture emerging talents from across El Salvador, including the western, eastern, and central regions of the country.

In a statement to El Salvador newspaper, the Minister of Tourism, Morena Valdéz, expressed her enthusiasm for the event. «For the first time, ALAS has chosen El Salvador to host a surf camp. At the same time, a talent search will take place to uncover young surfers who can represent our world-class waves on the international stage.»

The ALAS Pro Tour team will visit some of the country’s most famous surf beaches, including Mizata and Oriente Salvaje, to identify the young athletes with the most potential. The program is a meaningful collaboration that not only seeks to develop surfing talent but also reinforces El Salvador’s reputation as a top global surfing destination.

“It’s an honor to collaborate with Surf City in discovering new surfing talent in El Salvador, a country that holds a special place for ALAS as our foundation was originally born here in 1998,” Sierralta added. «These training sessions are a key step in nurturing the next wave of athletes who could make their mark on the ALAS Pro Tour.»

With the expertise of seasoned champions like Passeri and Tudela, the ALAS talent hunting camp promises to be a transformative experience for young surfers, offering them the tools they need to succeed on the international stage.
