Surf, Skate, and Yoga: El Salvador’s Surf City ALAS Pro Tour 2024 Delivers More Than Waves.

For the second consecutive day, El Salvador hosted the Surf City El Salvador ALAS Pro Tour 2024, marking the grand finale of a year-long season. This year, the country welcomed six major international surfing events, bringing the total to 20 since the start of the current administration.

Once again, the Latin American Association of Professional Surfers (ALAS) entrusted El Salvador and the iconic waves of El Sunzal to deliver an unforgettable tournament. On Thursday, Salvadoran surfer Daniel Monterrosa secured a spot in the third round of the open category with a score of 12.74 in his best waves, finishing second in his heat behind Costa Rica’s Carlos Muñoz, who scored 15.53 points. Monterrosa is currently ranked 36th in the ALAS Pro Tour standings.

Meanwhile, Salvadoran champion Bryan Pérez concluded his run in the competition after placing third in the eighth heat of the second round in the open category. Last year, Pérez claimed gold in the Salvadoran leg of the circuit. With this year’s performance, he holds the ninth spot in the overall ranking, having earned 5,220 points across the eight events of the circuit.

The Surf City El Salvador ALAS Pro Tour 2024 offers more than just surfing. Complementing the competitions, organizers have introduced parallel activities to enhance the experience for over 300 athletes. A skateboarding ramp on-site features exhibitions from skaters across the country, who have benefited from government support under President Bukele’s administration. This addition highlights skateboarding and surfing as Olympic disciplines. Yoga sessions led by expert instructors have also been open to participants, adding to the vibrant atmosphere.

In the open women’s category, Julissa Moody advanced to the third round after finishing second in heat seven. Moody remains one of El Salvador’s strongest competitors in the ALAS Pro Tour 2024. Additionally, Julio Crespín progressed to the next stage in the under-18 category, securing second place in heat seven.

As El Salvador continues to emerge as a world-class surfing destination, the Surf City initiative underscores the nation’s commitment to promoting sports tourism and showcasing its exceptional beaches to a global audience.
