El Salvador Sets Record Signups for Alas Pro Tour 2023.

El Salvador continues to excel in organizing world-class sporting events. This year, the country has hosted a remarkable total of five surf tournaments, with one more on the horizon – the eagerly awaited Alas Pro Tour 2023, set to take place on the eastern Salvadoran coast.

«We’ve achieved a record number of registrations for this tournament, the Alas Pro Tour 2023,» stated Morena Valdez, head of El Salvador’s Ministry of Tourism. She also mentioned that the event will be hosted at Las Flores Beach in San Miguel.

The Ministry of Tourism has already registered over 140 athletes, and there are expectations for more to join as the registration period continues. El Salvador’s world-class waves have garnered international recognition, thanks to the strategies implemented by President Bukele’s administration, which has kept the country in the global spotlight. Enhanced security measures have rekindled interest among tourists, investors, and event organizers.

The tournament is scheduled to take place from November 9th to the 12th and promises top-tier infrastructure. Valdez detailed, «We will host the surf tournament at Las Flores Beach. We have the infrastructure in place, including ecological boardwalks, restrooms, and more, thanks in part to the $106 million loan from the Inter-American Development Bank.»

The official emphasized that these events have played a crucial role in boosting visitor numbers to the country. She mentioned this year’s projections, expecting to welcome 2.9 million tourists. El Salvador has also been recognized by the World Tourism Organization as the fourth fastest-growing tourism destination globally, with a remarkable 30% growth.

The head of the Ministry of Tourism stressed that surfing is El Salvador’s unique selling point, attracting new audiences worldwide and establishing the country as a premier tourist destination.

El Salvador is committed to continuing its strategies and investments in public infrastructure to stimulate tourism. The Surf City infrastructure in the eastern part of the country marks a pivotal moment in an area rich in impressive tourism and cultural assets.
