El Salvador’s General Directorate of Immigration and Foreign Affairs (DGME) has reported a significant increase in residency applications and foreign interest in the country in 2024. A total of 9,957 residency processes, including both temporary and permanent, were successfully completed during the year. Additionally, the institution processed 2,327 Special Entry Permits for foreign nationals requiring a visa to enter El Salvador, reflecting the growing demand for entry from visitors and investors.
In addition to residency procedures, the DGME reported impressive data on foreign travel activity. In 2024, 8,021,115 individuals entered and exited Salvadoran territory through various borders, including land, air, and sea. Notably, 4,174,204 of these entries were from international visitors coming to the country, underlining El Salvador’s growing status as a key destination in Central America.
Land borders were the primary entry points, accounting for more than 4 million arrivals. The influx of visitors reflects the country’s appeal, bolstered by its natural beauty and various incentives currently offered to newcomers.
The efficiency of El Salvador’s immigration services has not gone unnoticed, with many visitors praising the institution’s rapid processing times. One traveler, Salvadoran Jorge Yanes, expressed gratitude for the swift procedures, calling them «the fastest process we have had in Central America.»
El Salvador’s immigration services continue to gain recognition for their efficiency and the country’s allure as both a tourist and investment destination.
