The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of El Salvador has announced that 22 young individuals have been awarded scholarships to pursue higher education in agricultural engineering and related fields. These scholarships, granted under the Agrobecas Program, will allow recipients to study at the prestigious Pan-American Agricultural School, Zamorano, in Honduras.
The initiative aligns with El Salvador’s national plans to promote sustainable and resilient development in the agriculture sector, a key area for economic, social, and environmental progress.

“This program represents a concrete response from the Salvadoran Government to strengthen the agroindustry by cultivating a new generation of highly skilled professionals,” stated Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Adriana Mira.
The inaugural edition of Agrobecas has prioritized candidates with a passion for forestry, environmental sciences, agriculture, and related disciplines. Scholarship recipients will engage in four-year academic programs focusing on agronomy, food agroindustry, agribusiness administration, and environmental development, among others.
“This initiative ensures that future leaders in the agricultural sector not only acquire technical expertise but also develop an entrepreneurial mindset committed to sustainable development,” emphasized Deputy Minister Mira.
Set to commence in 2025, the program also aims to equip participants with the tools to modernize the agroindustry, implement sustainable practices, and foster innovation in rural communities. Mira highlighted that the scholarship program underscores the government’s commitment to food security, sector revitalization, and rural employment creation.
The Agrobecas initiative was made possible through funding facilitated by the Secretariat of External Financing (Setefe) and will be implemented by the Salvadoran Agency for International Cooperation (ESCO), which oversees national scholarship programs.
This effort marks a significant step toward ensuring the growth of El Salvador’s agricultural sector while empowering the next generation of professionals to be agents of change in their communities.
