Year-End Tourism Boosts Air Travel in El Salvador.

The holiday season has brought a surge of both Salvadoran nationals and international visitors to El Salvador, eager to reconnect with family or explore the country’s diverse tourist attractions.

The Executive Port Commission (CEPA) has reported a 10% increase in passenger flight operations at the El Salvador International Airport for December 2024. “We’ve recorded a 10% rise in passenger flight operations, handling over 44,100 arrivals, departures, and connecting flights,” the agency announced via social media.

Currently, 14 commercial airlines operate at the airport, providing connections to destinations in Europe, North America, Central America, South America, and the Caribbean. CEPA further revealed that the airport has served over 5 million passengers this year, with many arriving to celebrate the holiday season in El Salvador.

“From December 1 to 15, 2024, our staff handled 17% more travelers compared to the same period last year,” the agency added.

CEPA President Federico Anliker attributes the increase in flights and international passengers to El Salvador’s favorable investment climate and enhanced security measures. “This sustainable growth has been consistent in recent years, and it indicates that the airport is reaching an impressive capacity,” said Anliker.

Michael Wehmeyer, Copa Airlines’ General Manager for Northern Central America, echoed this sentiment. The airline expanded its weekly flights from 14 to 25 this year due to the country’s growing tourism and economic opportunities. “El Salvador has been a key market for us, and the positive response to our investments reflects the country’s potential,” Wehmeyer noted.

As the country continues to gain momentum as a preferred destination, El Salvador is set to close the year on a high note, with its airport playing a pivotal role in welcoming the world.
