The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has reported a significant $14.8 million in investments from the Salvadoran diaspora during 2024, with the majority directed towards the tourism sector. Vice Foreign Minister Adriana Mira shared the update with deputies during a session of the Finance and Special Budget Committee of the Legislative Assembly.

Mira highlighted that Salvadorans living abroad have made a substantial impact on the country’s economy this year through direct investments in various sectors, including tourism, restaurants, and other key industries. “Our diaspora has played an essential role in the economic growth of El Salvador. This year alone, they have invested $14.8 million, and much of it has been in tourism and related sectors,” she said.
The Vice Minister also emphasized the work done by the Foreign Ministry to facilitate these investments, ensuring that the Salvadoran diaspora has access to the numerous opportunities El Salvador offers today.
Looking ahead, Mira projected that diaspora investments will reach $20 million in 2025, reflecting growing confidence in the country’s economic prospects.
In addition to attracting investments, the Foreign Ministry has supported Salvadoran entrepreneurs by organizing exhibitions and sales events for products from 201 local businesses. These efforts have raised over $63,000 and will continue with plans for five product marketing houses in the U.S. and Europe. These initiatives aim to directly connect small Salvadoran producers with international buyers, eliminating intermediaries and ensuring fairer prices.
“We are working with Conamype to establish these trading houses, which will serve as a business model to promote Salvadoran products globally,” Mira explained.
