A group of young Salvadorans from the GastroLab SurfCity program is currently in Peru, embarking on an exciting gastronomic exchange in a country renowned for its world-class culinary scene. The initiative is part of GastroLab SurfCity’s ongoing mission to provide free gastronomic training to young people in El Salvador, opening doors to employment, entrepreneurship, and growth opportunities in the tourism and hospitality industries.
This international experience was made possible through the collaboration with the World Food Programme (WFP) and the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB), which have supported the GastroLab SurfCity program’s efforts to train young Salvadorans in high-demand culinary skills.

With training centers in La Unión, La Libertad, and Santa Ana, GastroLab SurfCity has already graduated more than 430 individuals, equipping them with the skills needed to meet the growing demand for skilled workers in El Salvador’s expanding tourism sector. Now, through this exchange program, participants are gaining firsthand knowledge of Peru’s renowned cuisine, learning new recipes and techniques to enhance their culinary expertise.
By adding international culinary techniques to their repertoire, these young Salvadorans are strengthening their knowledge and improving their future prospects in the tourism and hospitality industries, both at home and abroad. This exchange program represents a key milestone in the growth of GastroLab SurfCity, as it continues to enrich the lives of young people while contributing to the development of El Salvador’s tourism sector.
Through initiatives like these, GastroLab SurfCity is helping to build a brighter future for Salvadoran youth, empowering them with the skills they need to succeed in the global gastronomy and tourism industries.
