A recent CID Gallup survey reveals that 91% of Salvadorans approve of President Nayib Bukele’s performance in his second term, maintaining the high levels of support seen during his first term. The survey, conducted between October 15 and 24, 2024, with a sample of 1,200 people nationwide, highlights Bukele’s consistent popularity, echoing approval ratings similar to those observed in 2019.
Luis Haug, general manager of CID Gallup, shared the results in an interview, noting that the 91% approval rating is a remarkable achievement, particularly in the second term of a presidency. «These results are similar to the approval levels Bukele received in 2019, and they are notably higher than those seen by other leaders in the region during their early presidencies,» Haug said. He cited the approval ratings of other leaders like Panama’s Raúl Molino and the Dominican Republic’s Luis Abinader, both of whom did not experience such high levels of approval during their «honeymoon» periods in office.
The survey also revealed that 89% of respondents believe Bukele is performing well or very well in his duties, with only 4% expressing dissatisfaction. In addition, 82% of those surveyed believe the country is heading in the right direction, indicating a strong sense of optimism about the nation’s future.
Haug emphasized the broader impact of these positive sentiments on the country’s economy and social outlook. «This optimism is important as it fuels economic activity, stimulates purchasing behavior, and enhances aspirations for the future,» he noted. The survey results also suggest that the sense of hope and stability has been sustained since Bukele’s first election in 2019, when the nation shifted from a period of widespread pessimism to a more positive outlook.
Overall, the survey results underscore the enduring popularity of President Bukele, who has managed to maintain high approval ratings despite challenges and controversies, signaling a stable and optimistic perception among the Salvadoran public.
The CID Gallup survey has a margin of error of +/- 2.8 points and a confidence level of 95%.
