El Salvador is positioning itself as a leading center for digital innovation in Latin America, with the country hosting the ID Forum 2024 Summit from November 18 to 20. The summit, the largest Ibero-American space for discussion on identity and digital services, marks its sixth edition this year. The event focuses on the impact of technology on economic development, aligning with the nation’s ongoing digital transformation initiatives.
Minister of Economy María Luisa Hayem, who holds the honorary presidency of the ID Forum, emphasized the importance of digital transformation for driving economic growth and improving the quality of life for citizens. “We live in an era in which technology redefines the way we live and work. We firmly believe that digital transformation is a development engine that can drive economic growth and improve the quality of life of our citizens,” Hayem said in her opening remarks.
The Minister also highlighted notable advancements in El Salvador’s digital landscape, including the issuance of over 40,000 electronic signatures and the adoption of the electronic seal. In addition, more than 32 companies have benefited from the Law for the Promotion of Innovation and Technological Manufacturing, which offers tax exemptions for up to 15 years to businesses in the tech sector.

The ID Forum brings together business leaders, regulators, and multilateral organizations from 20 Latin American countries. Participants will share experiences, success stories, and insights into the role of electronic services in fostering technological development across the region.
Gertrudis Camps, executive director of the ID Forum, stated that the summit will analyze the various investments being made to promote technology and its role in economic development. “There will be national and international speakers participating in different formats, including presentations, panels, and discussions on the latest technological trends and solutions,” he explained.
Camps also praised Minister Hayem’s involvement in advocating for the use of technology to drive sustainable economic growth with a positive impact on society. “Minister Hayem is deeply committed to the values we promote in how technology can be leveraged for economic development,” he noted.
With initiatives like the ID Forum and its growing tech sector, El Salvador is increasingly recognized as a hub for digital innovation in the region.
