New CUBO in San Marcos to Provide Modern Spaces for Youth and Families.

The Ministry of Public Works (MOP) and the Directorate of Social Fabric have officially laid the first stone for the construction of a new Urban Center for Well-being and Opportunities (CUBO) in San Marcos. This modern facility, set to serve families in the 10 de Octubre neighborhood and surrounding areas, aims to provide a variety of spaces for community engagement and personal development.

The CUBO will feature a 750-square-meter complex that includes a library, a computer center, a dedicated gaming area, a recording studio, and recreational spaces for both children and adults. Minister of Public Works, Romeo Rodríguez, highlighted the center’s broad scope, emphasizing that it will cater to a wide range of interests, from video games and sports to arts and culture.

“The center will provide a recreational room, games, a children’s area, and spaces for video games and creative projects, allowing young people to engage in productive activities,» said Rodríguez.

In addition to the CUBO itself, the surrounding areas will also see improvements as part of the project. The streets and public spaces near the center will be upgraded, enhancing the overall environment for residents.

The 10 de Octubre neighborhood, which has faced significant challenges with crime in recent years, is one of several areas benefiting from this initiative. The construction of CUBOs is part of the government’s broader strategy under Phase II of the Territorial Control Plan, aimed at reducing violence and promoting community well-being.

These centers are designed to offer young people a safe and constructive environment where they can access resources for education, culture, and technology. By investing in such spaces, the government aims to foster personal growth and provide opportunities for development in vulnerable communities.

The new CUBO in San Marcos is expected to be a key step toward improving the quality of life in the area and creating more spaces for Salvadorans to thrive.
