El Salvador and Latvia held their first bilateral Political Consultations Meeting today, marking a new chapter in their 23-year diplomatic relationship. Both nations focused on expanding their collaborative agenda, highlighting key areas such as political dialogue, development cooperation, business opportunities, and trade exchanges.

One of the central topics discussed was leveraging the benefits of the Association Agreement between El Salvador and the European Union, of which Latvia is a member. This agreement offers tariff exemptions that could boost Salvadoran exports to the Baltic region. Both parties agreed to organize business forums and promotional activities to foster economic exchanges and promote tourism. Additionally, El Salvador presented its investment opportunities in strategic sectors to attract foreign partners.
On the cooperation front, the nations discussed health initiatives aimed at knowledge-sharing, as well as collaboration in education, technology, digital innovation, food security, and labor mobility.

El Salvador also expressed its desire to appoint an honorary consul in Latvia to deepen diplomatic and business connections. Moreover, the country showcased recent progress in security, economic, and social transformations aimed at improving the quality of life for its citizens.
Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs Adriana Mira, who led the meeting alongside Ambassador Patricia Godínez, emphasized the importance of partnerships with like-minded countries. Latvia’s Special Ambassador for Global and Multilateral Affairs, Andrejs Pildegovičs, echoed this sentiment, expressing eagerness to explore joint actions in various fields.
Diplomatic relations between El Salvador and Latvia were established on January 11, 2001.
