Argentina and El Salvador Forge Aeronautical Hub Agreement.

El Salvador is set to enhance its position as a regional leader in airport management through a newly signed agreement with Argentina, aimed at creating an aeronautical hub. This collaboration, established during President Nayib Bukele’s recent state visit to Argentina, signals a commitment from both nations to improve air interconnections.

Federico Anliker, president of the Autonomous Executive Port Commission (CEPA), emphasized the significance of this bilateral agreement, highlighting Argentina’s experience with its 55 airports as a valuable resource for El Salvador. Anliker stated, “The meeting was very positive, and we will continue to develop these agreements, focusing on the Pacific Airport and our broader vision in the aeronautical and port sectors.”

This initiative aligns with El Salvador’s strategic plans to bolster its economy, particularly through logistics and infrastructure improvements. Anliker noted the recent approval of a $320 million loan from the Development Bank of Latin America and the Caribbean (CAF) for the El Salvador Vuela project, which includes multiple aerodromes and the Pacific Airport.

He reiterated the country’s goal to revitalize its aeronautical sector, saying, “It is important to have aerodromes throughout the country to handle emergencies and promote tourism.”

The International Airport of El Salvador (AIES) is already showing positive growth, exceeding 4 million passengers in early October—an increase of 22% compared to the same period last year. Additionally, commercial flight activity has risen by 14%, with 35,600 flights recorded from January to early October.

El Salvador is also positioning itself as a regional logistics hub through a partnership with Turkish company YILPORT Holding, which plans to invest $1.615 billion in the ports of Acajutla and La Unión.

With these developments, El Salvador is on a promising path to becoming a central player in the aeronautical and logistics sectors in Latin America.
