Expansion of Check-In Area at El Salvador International Airport Reaches 68% Completion.

The expansion of the check-in area at El Salvador International Airport is now 68% complete, according to the Autonomous Executive Port Commission (CEPA). The construction of the new registration area, which often becomes overcrowded during peak flight hours, began in December 2023 with a $12 million investment. This marks the second major expansion since the airport, located in San Luis Talpa, La Paz, was inaugurated in 1980.

In a post on social media platform X, CEPA provided an update, noting that several key infrastructure components have been installed, including a wall covering, a transition plug for existing and new ceilings, and office divisions for airlines. Other upgrades include the fire detection system, potable and wastewater networks, and electrical infrastructure.

Additional progress has been made on the base for the floor slab, air conditioning ducts, electrical installation trays, and substation equipment. Once completed, the expanded check-in area will cover 7,160 square meters and offer 122 service points for passengers and baggage.

CEPA also reported that the airport handled four million passengers between January 1 and October 2, 2024, marking a 22% increase compared to the same period in 2023. This figure represents 88.8% of the 4.5 million passengers served in 2023.
