On the second day of his visit to Argentina, El Salvador’s President Nayib Bukele engaged in high-level discussions aimed at enhancing diplomatic relations between the two nations. Following a productive meeting with Argentine President Javier Milei, Bukele visited the Senate, Chamber of Deputies, and Supreme Court of Justice to underscore the importance of bilateral collaboration.
During his first stop, Bukele met with Vice President Victoria Eugenia Villarruel, who is also the President of the Honorable Senate. In a private discussion, they addressed several key topics of mutual interest. “It is an honor to be here, in the house of the senators. Thank you very much for the welcome; we are happy with this trip to Argentina, a nation that we love very much,” Bukele expressed, signing the book of honor in the presence of Villarruel, who presented him with a symbolic gift from the nation.
Following the meeting, Bukele participated in a press conference with Senate representatives, where he elaborated on El Salvador’s security challenges, particularly the impact of gangs on the nation. He highlighted the success of the Territorial Control Plan (PCT), a strategy encompassing seven phases aimed at eradicating insecurity and promoting safety within the country. “I felt very identified with you, President Nayib Bukele, when you mentioned that in your country they killed innocent people to draw attention. We suffered exactly the same,” stated Carolina Losada, a Senator from Santa Fe.
Bukele continued his tour by signing the book of honor at the Chamber of Deputies, where he met with Martín Menem, the chamber’s president, for further discussions. His next stop was the Supreme Court of Justice, where he again signed a book of honor before meeting privately with Court President Horacio Rosatti.
The day concluded with a meeting between Bukele and Argentine Foreign Minister Diana Mondino, aimed at engaging Argentine investors. This visit is particularly significant as it coincides with an announcement by Argentina’s Security Minister Patricia Bullrich, who revealed the signing of a crucial agreement with El Salvador. This agreement is expected to reflect a “paradigm shift in the fight against narcoterrorism” in both countries.
Bukele’s visit reinforces the commitment to deepening ties between El Salvador and Argentina, paving the way for enhanced collaboration in security and economic development.
