New MOPT Monitoring Center Construction Underway: Minister Herrera Provides Update.

Minister of Public Works and Transportation, Romeo Herrera (@RomeoHerrera1), is closely supervising the development of the new MOPT Transportation and Emergency Monitoring Center, a significant infrastructure project aimed at enhancing traffic management and emergency response.

The construction, taking place on a 4,284 square meter site, features a four-story building that will house advanced monitoring and traffic management systems. The project has made notable progress, with foundational work, including piles and footings, already completed. “We plan to finish the project at the beginning of next year,” Herrera confirmed.

Once operational, the center will be equipped with state-of-the-art technology for monitoring traffic lights and photo-ticket systems, improving the efficiency of traffic management across the country. “Here we will have all the teams that will be monitoring the traffic lights and photo tickets,” Herrera added.

In preparation for the new center, signage improvements will commence on Monseñor Romero Boulevard starting Monday. Additionally, smart traffic lights and photo-ticket systems have been installed in various locations nationwide. Although the photo-ticket system is currently operational in a testing phase without issuing fines, it will become fully active once proper signage is in place.

The new center will also benefit from equipment donated by South Korean cooperation, which will further enhance its capabilities. “We are committed to advancing our traffic management infrastructure, and training for the photo-ticket system has already begun,” Herrera said.

Currently, a provisional monitoring center at @VMTElSalvador continues to operate while the new facility is under construction. This new center represents a major step forward in modernizing El Salvador’s transportation and emergency management systems.
