Record Zero Homicides in El Salvador as Territorial Control Plan Shows Results.

El Salvador experienced a remarkable achievement on August 27, recording zero homicides throughout the entire country. This significant decline in violence is attributed to the ongoing success of the Territorial Control Plan (PCT), which was implemented on June 20, 2019, along with the exceptional regime approved by the Legislative Assembly.

The National Civil Police (PNC) confirmed the milestone, highlighting the effectiveness of these security measures. According to the Ministry of Security and PNC statistics, the country has seen a marked reduction in monthly homicide rates in 2024. Monthly figures range between 6 and 14 murders, with May reporting the highest number of 14, and February and June the lowest at 6 each. January had 9 homicides, March 10, April 13, and July 12.

Additionally, official sources report that the Terrorism Confinement Center (Cecot) now houses 14,500 gang members. These individuals were transferred from various prisons and newly detained during the state of emergency, underscoring the government’s intensified efforts to combat gang violence.

The zero-homicide day is seen as a testament to the impact of El Salvador’s comprehensive security strategies and ongoing commitment to reducing crime.
