Sunset Park Celebrates Two Years of Coastal Fun.

Two years ago, Sunset Park opened its doors in La Libertad, El Salvador, becoming the only seaside amusement park in Central America. The park has since become a major attraction for both national and international tourists.

Sunset Park offers a unique experience with five popular rides—the Ferris Wheel, Roller Coaster, Carousel, Frog Hopper, and Pirate Ship—allowing visitors to enjoy the stunning Salvadoran sunset. Since its inauguration in August 2022, the park has drawn approximately 1.5 million visitors as of July 2024, according to the Salvadoran Institute of Tourism (ISTU). These numbers account only for those who used the rides, not including the many who visit just to soak in the atmosphere, savor a local treat, or capture memories with family photos.

Data from the ISTU indicates that between August 2022 and August 2023, Sunset Park welcomed 861,000 visitors. From September 2023 to July 2024, another 685,000 people enjoyed the park’s attractions. Sunset Park’s appeal was evident from the start, with over 13,000 ride users during its first weekend, helping to bring more than 48,000 tourists to the La Libertad Tourist Complex.

ISTU President Eny Aguiñada highlighted the park’s prime location, which combines entertainment, the beauty of the Pacific Ocean, and the region’s famous culinary offerings. “Sunset Park is the first amusement park in Central America located in a coastal area, featuring five mechanical rides. Its strategic location allows visitors to enjoy not only the attractions but also the food and products offered within the La Libertad Tourist Complex,” she explained.

To celebrate its second anniversary, the park will host a special event on Sunday, August 25, 2024. Aguiñada announced on social media that all rides will be free for visitors that day, and from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., attendees can enjoy live music, dance performances, LED character shows, a drone show, and fireworks.

Sunset Park’s establishment is a key part of the Surf City I tourism initiative, which has transformed La Libertad’s coastline into a must-visit destination. Along with the Gastronomic Plaza and the Sea Market, Sunset Park is now a cornerstone of the La Libertad Tourist Complex, making it one of the most popular spots for locals and tourists alike.
