Economic Revival in San Salvador’s Historical Center Boosts Job Creation.

The Historical Center of San Salvador has emerged as a key location for the establishment of new businesses across various sectors, thanks to the area’s revitalization and beautification efforts, as well as enhanced security measures and fiscal incentives for investors.

These government-implemented measures have facilitated the initiation of over 75 projects, including accommodations, cafes, restaurants, and retail businesses, with investments exceeding $65 million, according to data from the San Salvador Historical Center Planning Authority (Aplan).

Manuel Joachin, the director of Aplan, noted that these investments have generated more than 2,500 formal jobs for both Salvadorans and some foreigners.

«The Historical Center is now the second most visited tourist destination, but it has also become a hub of economic development. This has allowed us to register many companies interested in investing and taking advantage of the benefits provided,» Joachin stated.

Joachin explained that the Historical Center comprises 80 blocks, representing more than 772,000 square meters, providing ample space for various types of investments. As of now, Aplan has managed permits for around 100,000 square meters, which is approximately 22% of the delimited area.

Currently, entrepreneurs are keen on making their mark in the heart of the Salvadoran capital, particularly in sectors such as accommodation, restaurants, and cafes.

«There are two hotels set to open soon, one of which is a boutique hotel. Additionally, a museum by the National Commission for Micro and Small Enterprises (Conamype) will open, where entrepreneurs can sell their products,» announced Joachin.

Joachin also mentioned that major chains in the gastronomic sector are showing interest in operating in the area, including a prominent fried chicken chain.

Recently, a Salvadoran coffee brand opened a new cafe with an investment of over $200,000, and a pupusa restaurant reopened, offering low-priced products and complimentary coffee, courtesy of President Nayib Bukele.
