New Bakery Project Links Small Producers and Micro-Entrepreneurs in El Salvador.

The El Salvador Agency for International Cooperation (ESCO) has officially launched the Innova Bakery project, with the backing of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the World Food Programme (WFP), and the MYPE Observatory. The project will be hosted at the Fe y Alegría Education Center for All Zacamil.

Innova Bakery aims to innovate baking techniques and the use of local raw materials, linking small-scale producers with micro-entrepreneurs to offer healthy and nutritious food. The goal is to strengthen the food system by connecting food production with consumers through innovative capacity development techniques for micro-entrepreneurs and small producers of corn and sorghum.

“This July, ESCO celebrates its fourth anniversary; one of its goals has been to promote projects like this, which are innovative, impactful on the Salvadoran population, and multi-actor, involving government actors, international cooperation, civil society, and the private sector,” ESCO posted on the social media platform X.

The WFP also highlighted that Innova strengthens the capacities of small producers and bakers by training them in innovative cultivation techniques, the creation of new nutritious products, and market access. “Strategic work and alliances are fundamental to contributing innovatively to the nutritious diet of Salvadorans,” the UN agency posted.
