Salvadoran Airport Assists Regional Flights Amid Adverse Weather Conditions.

The El Salvador International Airport has provided assistance to flights from the region, as announced by the Autonomous Executive Port Commission (CEPA). The Salvadoran air terminal accommodated 16 alternate flights originating from Guatemala and Costa Rica, which were unable to land at their intended destinations due to severe weather conditions.

The heavy rains that have recently swept through Central America have significantly impacted the region’s aviation sector, preventing some aircraft from landing in their destination countries. Consequently, since last Thursday, El Salvador International Airport has been receiving these diverted flights.

According to data from the government agency, the affected airlines were unable to land at airports such as La Aurora in Guatemala. “Since June 13, we have accommodated 16 alternate flights from Guatemala and Costa Rica at El Salvador International Airport, as they could not land due to adverse weather conditions in their destination countries,” CEPA stated on social media.

Federico Anliker, President of CEPA, emphasized the airport’s commitment to supporting regional partners. «As El Salvador International Airport, we are assisting by receiving flights from our sister nations in the region,» he said.

Despite the intense rainfall, the Salvadoran airport has maintained normal operations, with commercial flights continuing as scheduled. “Operations are running smoothly at El Salvador International Airport. Our airport staff is dedicated to ensuring passenger safety on every flight,” CEPA detailed.

The agency also mentioned that they are constantly monitoring the country’s weather conditions. «In light of the national emergency due to the rains, we continue to operate 24/7 at El Salvador International Airport,» Anliker reaffirmed.

Currently, 14 commercial airlines operate at El Salvador International Airport, directly connecting to 37 international destinations.

Additionally, CEPA reported that maritime operations at the port of Acajutla in Sonsonate, including container unloading and dispatch, as well as general cargo handling, are proceeding normally.
