The Historic Center of San Salvador has emerged as the second most visited tourist destination in the country, surpassed only by Surf City. Recent renovations and enhanced security in the area have not only attracted new investments but also increased the number of domestic and foreign tourists.
Manuel Joachin, the owner-director of the Board of Directors of the Historic Center Planning Authority (Aplan), confirmed that over 65 projects are currently underway, totaling more than $55 million in investments. “In less than a year, we’ve already addressed over 65 investment projects in the Historic Center. Furthermore, we anticipate additional investments that will continue to invigorate the local economy and create new formal employment opportunities for Salvadorans,” Joachin emphasized.
These projects span various sectors, including accommodation, restaurants, and cafés. Many of these establishments are currently in progress and are set to begin operations this year.
Additionally, a new museum is part of the projects being attended to, enriching the cultural and artistic heritage of the country within the Historic Center.
The revitalization of San Salvador’s heart has made it an attractive destination for businesses, thanks in part to fiscal and municipal incentives offered by authorities. These incentives, lasting up to 10 years, apply to new investments related to accommodation, dining, cultural activities, and urban and housing development. Notably, they include exemptions from income tax (ISR), municipal fees, and deductible expenses.
The recent surge in investments in the capital city was also confirmed by Minister of Tourism Morena Valdez. She assured that new projects will soon be announced, further boosting national and international tourism. “We’re committed to attracting investment, and we look forward to announcing the opening of new hotels and restaurants in San Salvador’s Historic Center,” said Valdez.
The goal is for San Salvador’s Historic Center to rival the likes of Madrid or Buenos Aires and remain one of the most visited places in the country. Achieving this transformation has been a challenging but rewarding endeavor, and Aplan faces the responsibility of ensuring that this investment contributes to the area’s sustainable growth.
Currently, the Historic Center of San Salvador stands as the second most popular tourist destination in the country, highlighting its rich historical and cultural significance.
