The Embassy of the United States in El Salvador has confirmed that Frank Rubio will visit Salvadoran soil to share his experience in space. Frank Rubio, the Salvadoran-born astronaut who holds the record for spending 371 days in orbit on a NASA space mission, will soon visit El Salvador, as announced by the United States Embassy in El Salvador on Monday.
In a post on their social media platforms, the U.S. embassy in the country announced that Rubio will be in the country, although they did not provide details about the date of the astronaut’s meeting with Salvadorans.
«The countdown has begun! Salvadoran-American NASA astronaut Frank Rubio is approaching Salvadoran soil. What message will he bring us from space? Get ready for a meeting that will transcend the limits of imagination and open doors to impressive knowledge and stories from his time in space,» the diplomatic headquarters posted.
Frank Rubio became, in 2023, the astronaut with the most days in space during an official NASA mission, totaling 371 days on a single spaceflight, surpassing the record set by astronaut Mark Van de Hei, who spent 355 days in orbit.
Rubio returned from a mission on the International Space Station (ISS) on Wednesday, September 27, 2023, after departing on September 21, 2022, alongside Russian cosmonauts Sergey Prokopyev and Dmitri Petelin aboard the Soyuz MS-22 spacecraft. However, due to a coolant leak, they had to delay their return to Earth.
Recently, Rubio was awarded the special distinction of Army Astronaut by the United States Army, one of the rarest and highest-ranking insignias awarded to military personnel. The only two astronauts to have received the badge are Andrew Morgan and Anne McClain.
