The National Civil Police (PNC) reported that on Thursday, February 29, there were zero homicides recorded across the entire national territory. Authorities proclaimed this accomplishment, deeming February 2024 as the safest month in the nation’s history.
«We concluded Thursday, February 29, with 0 homicides in the country. February 2024 becomes the safest month in the entire history of the country,» announced the institution through its social media channels.
President Nayib Bukele underscored the success achieved through the government’s security policies, proudly stating that El Salvador boasts the title of «the safest country in the entire Western Hemisphere.»
«February 2024 closes, becoming the safest month in the entire history of our country. With an annualized homicide rate of 0.8 per 100,000 inhabitants, less than half of Canada and by far the safest country in the entire Western Hemisphere,» he expressed.
Authorities reiterated that these remarkable results are attributed to timely security measures, including the implementation of the Territorial Control Plan and the state of exception, leading to the apprehension of thousands of gang members.
«The ability for Salvadoran families to enjoy their country by freely walking the streets without fear is the greatest reward for us as law enforcement. Upholding the rights of law-abiding citizens has propelled us to become the safest nation in the Western Hemisphere,» emphasized PNC Director Mauricio Arriaza Chicas.
