In a nationwide broadcast on radio and television, the Supreme Electoral Tribunal (TSE) officially declared the victory of the Nuevas Ideas party, led by President Nayib Bukele, in the recent legislative elections. TSE President Dora Esmeralda Martínez announced that New Ideas secured a total of 54 seats and their corresponding substitutes, solidifying its majority in the Legislative Assembly.
The TSE, in its comprehensive report on the election results for the Legislative Assembly, disclosed that other prominent parties, including Nuestro Tiempo and FMLN, failed to secure any seats in the assembly. The Partido de Concertación Nacional secured 2 deputies and their substitutes, while the Christian Democratic Party obtained one deputy and corresponding substitute. Arena, the Nationalist Republican Alliance, secured 2 seats, and Vamos gained one deputy and its respective substitute.
Notably, parties such as Nuestro Tiempo, Fuerza Solidaria, FMLN, Cambio Democrático, and GANA did not manage to secure any deputies in this highly contested election.
During the press conference, President Martínez highlighted the transparency and openness of the electoral process, emphasizing the TSE’s commitment to ensuring fairness and impartiality. «Throughout the entire process, the institution facilitated complete openness to the surveillance of all political parties, providing 300 accreditations to each, with the constant presence of entities such as FGR, PDDH, PGR, the Electoral Oversight Board, and national and international electoral observation missions.»
She further explained, «We granted access to the final scrutiny rooms to both national and international media, as well as content creators, ensuring that the public was informed in real-time. We published a repository of closing and scrutiny records on the internet, allowing anyone worldwide to review and consult the records generated at the working tables.»
