El Salvador to Inaugurate New Passenger Terminal at Ilopango in December.

The President of the Autonomous Executive Port Commission (CEPA), Federico Anliker, announced on Monday that the inauguration of the new terminal at the International Airport of Ilopango is set to take place in December. The expansion comes in response to a significant 25% increase in private flights at the airport compared to 2022.

The surge in private business and tourist flights has invigorated the air traffic at the Ilopango International Airport, transforming it into a key hub for corporate and leisure travel. President Anliker emphasized the noteworthy influx of entrepreneurs conducting business in the country and tourists choosing Ilopango as their preferred entry point.

«Most of the passengers arriving are businessmen here for business deals, and others are tourists. Within this demographic at the Ilopango International Airport, the majority arrive in their private aircraft,» stated President Anliker.

The new terminal, he revealed, is designed to meet the growing demand for enhanced passenger facilities. It will feature state-of-the-art Immigration and Customs installations, comfortable waiting areas, and a VIP lounge offering access to a range of food and beverage options.

President Anliker underscored the importance of creating a positive first impression, stating, «The initial experience is crucial. Today, passengers will arrive at a terminal unlike any in the entire civil aviation network of the region. Ilopango will set a new standard.»

Addressing the needs of business travelers, he highlighted that the Ilopango Airport will provide meeting rooms tailored for efficient time management. «Travelers will have access to meeting spaces right at the airport, providing more options for businessmen looking to streamline their time. Ilopango Airport will now serve as a bridge, offering these facilities to facilitate business activities,» he added.

The expansion of the Ilopango International Airport signifies a commitment from the government of President Nayib Bukele to enhance the country’s aviation infrastructure, catering to the evolving needs of both business and leisure travelers. The upcoming inauguration in December marks a milestone in elevating Ilopango’s status as a premier destination for private and commercial aviation in the region.
