Salvadoran Congress Receives Legal Framework for Google Agreement.

Moving towards technological advancement and improved public healthcare, El Salvador’s Minister of Economy, María Luisa Hayem, presented the legislative framework for the Google agreement to the country’s Legislative Assembly on Tuesday. This landmark agreement, forged between Google and President Nayib Bukele’s government, promises to usher in a new era of progress for the nation and attract foreign investors.

Minister Hayem elucidated that through the collaboration with Google, artificial intelligence would be integrated into the analytical processes of government institutions, ultimately leading to the delivery of high-quality healthcare services to Salvadorans. She emphasized, «Google will enable us to develop a unified educational platform so that school directors, teachers, parents, and the school community have the necessary tools to teach our children to make dynamic decisions and learn dynamically.»

Ernesto Castro, the President of the Legislative Assembly, echoed the transformative impact of this partnership, stating, «El Salvador is no longer the same. This statement, though simple, carries profound meaning. Previously, our country had negative indicators, with the foremost being insecurity, as we were once the most violent nation in the world. Thankfully, the people made a decision and changed the course of this country, lifting El Salvador out of the abyss and setting it on a path toward the future.»

Castro went on to explain that this agreement with one of the world’s leading technology companies would boost foreign investment, breaking down the barriers that previously hindered international companies from considering El Salvador as a viable destination for investment. «When a foreign company searched for ‘El Salvador’ on Google, the search results would predominantly feature news about murders, violence, and extortion. That was as far as their attempts to invest in our country went. But on days like today, when we receive this initiative for a Google agreement, history and facts confirm to the people that we are moving in the right direction.»

As part of the seven-year strategic agreement signed with President Nayib Bukele’s government, Google, one of the world’s largest technology companies, will establish a legal entity and an office in El Salvador. Additionally, it will develop digital infrastructure in the country using cloud technology. This groundbreaking partnership holds the promise of a brighter and more technologically advanced future for El Salvador.
